There is a painting by Lord Frederic Leighton called Flaming June, and the little baby filly reminds me of it.
Today she was very friendly. Dede says that she has gotten over her shy phase. She came right up to the fence and wanted to cuddle. She loved it when I cupped her jowl with my hand and stroked her cheek. She also enjoyed mane petting and back rubs. She really loved butt skritches. I got to see her interact with the mares, making her "I am just a little baby" lip flapping gesture when they pinned their ears at her. Here are some photos from today.
I am not sure which horse this is, but she is lovely.
I think this was a mare anyway.
But the baby, she just gets more and more lovely every day. She is going to be a very special horse, I think.
Hi, I'm Ev. I'm training to become a horsewoman. These are my adventures and misadventures. I'm green as hell, but so far, so good. I'm now learning from Bo (and sometimes his wife DeDe) at D&D Ranch in Pope Valley. I am extremely lucky to have this opportunity, I feel quite blessed, and I feel that they, and horses, have really turned my life around.
Solomon is my baby- a big old flea bitten grey Appendix gelding who is very kind and way too smart! I love him so very much. He is a rescue and was meant to be co-owned rehabbed, and maybe rehomed to a good home. He turned out to be over 25 years old with injuries that ultimately do not make him riding sound, so he is retired.

Awww, beauty baby. Mommy's walking away, but baby needs just a few more seconds of scritchies before she follows Mommy.
Is her name going to be Flaming June?
Awh, she has become a love. Her name isn't up to me, though I think it is a nice one for a fine horse.
